With two million years to work, the Gunnison River, along with the forces of weathering, has sculpted this vertical wilderness of rock, water and sky. Big enough to be overwhelming, still intimate enough to feel the pulse of time, Black Canyon of the Gunnison exposes you to some of the steepest cliffs and oldest rocks in North America.
BEST TIME TO GO
The best time to visit Black Canyon of the Gunnison is summer. North rim roads, ranger station and the main road on the South rim are closed from November until mid-April.
